TUITION REIMBURSEMENT

Mohawk’s Tuition Reimbursement Program helps you to open the doors to opportunity through continuing education. Employees interested in seeking tuition reimbursement or educational assistance should visit their Human Resources Department to learn more about the program. Human Resources will work with employees to verify eligibility based on tenure and that the employees’ course of study is appropriate to their current or potential role within the organization. Human Resources will also work with the employee and the department manager to review the tuition reimbursement request.

GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (GED) PROGRAM

For team members seeking to obtain a GED certification, reimbursement for tuition and the cost of the GED exam will be approved. As an incentive, the Company will provide a $100 savings bond to those associates who successfully obtain their GED certificate.

In order for a course or study program to be approved for reimbursement, you must submit your request for tuition assistance prior to taking the course. Approvals are required by your immediate supervisor, your department manager, and in some cases, your functional Vice President. Approval is also required from your Human Resources Manager.

After the course is completed successfully, you may request reimbursement for tuition and, where applicable, activity fees, textbook expenses, or other academically related charges where you incurred out-of-pocket expenses. Proof of such paid expenses is required.

Reimbursement will be at 100% for grades of C or better. Graduate level courses require a grade of B or better. Reimbursement will be made on a non-taxable basis up to $5,250 per calendar year. Any request for reimbursement above this amount will require approval of your functional Vice President and may be considered taxable income.

Contact your Human Resources manager for more details on this program.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM & CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

Requests to participate in continuing education courses or certificate programs that will enhance current job skills will be approved on a case-by-case basis by department management with input from the Human Resources Department to ensure consistency

529 COLLEGE BOUND SAVINGS PROGRAM

How it Works

Save for your children or grandchildren's education with a pre-determined amount this is automatically deducted from your paycheck and deposited into your 529 College Bound Fund.

Tax Savings

Unlike the 401(k) Plan, this is not a pre-tax contribution, but the money earned in the investments is not taxed while it is in the 529 Plan. When the money is withdrawn and given to the student to pay his or her tuition or other college expenses, the money is considered part of the annual $10,000 gift tax exclusion, so the student is not taxed when he or she receives the money.

Contribution Amounts

You can contribute up to $10,000 ($20,000 for married couples) each year to the 529 Plan. The minimum contribution is $13 per week or $50 per month. In order to participate, the employee must also be contributing a minimum of 4% to the 401(k) Plan.

Note to Georgia Residents

While the HOPE program covers the cost of tuition and books for Georgia students with a 3.0+ GPA attending colleges in the University of Georgia system, it does not cover the cost of room and board or some other fees. Money from the 529 Plan can be used to cover those expenses. Also, the money from the 529 Plan can be used at any accredited college in the United States, as well as at many foreign institutions. For more information on how the college savings plan can help you and your family plan for future college expenses, visit your Human Resources office for an informative brochure and an enrollment form. As with the 401(k) Plan, you may enroll at any time.
